BLACK CREATIVITY
CAN’T BE PAINTED IN A SINGLE STROKE.

Black creativity is not a monolith — it contains multitudes, and the work that it inspires represents a spectrum of backgrounds, disciplines, identities and stories.

To evoke that spectrum, Adobe collaborated with 72andSunny to highlight 12 multidisciplinary Black artists from across the globe in the film When I See Black:

Lawrence Agyei, Temi Coker, Shani Crowe, Aurélia Durand, Yannis Davy Guibinga, Asia Hall, Crystal Kayiza, Joshua Kissi, Esther Luntadila, Devin Wesley, Barry Yusufu, and Ismail Zaidy.

An integral part of our creative process was to ensure these Black artists were in control of their narrative and their words were true to their personal relationship with their art and identity. In a multiple-stage process that included an hour long interview with each artist, we worked with the artists to craft our story.

This led to 72andSunny writer Sydnie Johnson and consulting writer Rosie Knight creating an in-depth editorial read on Adobe.com (with editorial support from me) to accompany the film.
